All proceeds from this event will go towards the Erin Modrzynski scholarship fund which supports young aspiring artists. Explore the arts at www.Clarkstonarts.org. \nFeaturing first time challenger Stardusters Big Band vs Eight-time Battle of the Bands winner\, Paul King & the Rhythm Society Orchestra. Stardusters from Clarkston specializes in the elegance of the Big Band Era Swing. Paul King & the Rhythm Society Orchestra from Detroit specializes in swing from the mid-1930s through the late 1940s. Its sound is influenced by Count Basie and Harry James and has covered top swing venues throughout the Midwest. The band has been nominated for multiple Detroit Music Awards including Best Big Band/Swing Artists. \nDancers of all skill levels are welcome to the 23rd year of swing dancing. Many come just to enjoy the sights and sounds. Dress is snappy casual to semi-formal or vintage attire. General admission begins at 6:30 p.m. with a dance lesson from 7 to 8:pm. The band will hit the stage at 8:15 p.m. and perform until midnight. There is a cash bar available throughout the evening with a 50/50 raffle pot opportunity. This in-person event promises to be an unforgettable night filled with electrifying performances and infectious swing rhythms. \nTickets are $30 per person in advance or at the door. In this class we will go over the basic tools needed to carve spoons from green wood\, how to use them safely and confidently\, how to select wood for spoons\, and the basics of shaping and designing a strong and useful wooden spoon. Who doesn’t love a good wooden spoon? They are joyful pieces of craft and art that we use everyday\, can be made with an inexpensive toolkit\, and without the dust and noise of a conventional woodshop. Minimum 3. \nMany people find that learning how to carve a spoon with hand tools is one of the most enjoyable\, relaxing\, and empowering things to do. In this class we will go over the basic tools needed to carve spoons from green wood\, how to use them safely and confidently\, how to select wood for spoons\, and the basics of shaping and designing a strong and useful wooden spoon. Who doesn’t love a good wooden spoon? They are joyful pieces of craft and art that we use everyday\, can be made with an inexpensive toolkit\, and without the dust and noise of a conventional woodshop. You’ll leave this class with an itch to carve and a wonderful hobby that will fill your life with rich\, beautiful spoons. \nMaterials fee: $10 \nA select number of high-quality carving axes and knives will be available for purchase.

Included in each evening’s event will be making and enjoying s’mores as well as games and other activities for the whole family. \nPlenty of parking is available and admission is free.

DESCRIPTION:Two 2 Hour Class \n$45 \nBaycourt Cabin \nLimit 6. Minimum 3. \nLearn the foundational skills of carving with hand tools and the joy of whittling beautiful useful wooden objects from tent pegs to spatulas and much more! Part one of this two-part class will teach participants how to safely use a razor sharp axe to split\, chop\, and shave wood into a myriad of useful items. We will spend this 2 hour class working toward producing a simple wooden tent peg using just the axe. You’ll leave with new understandings of how to use the simple\, yet fundamental tool of a sharp axe to in safe and confident ways. You may even surprise yourself with the things that you realize you can make with just one tool! \nTake this class as a standalone or coupled with the knife skills class to get a well-rounded introduction to using these fundamental hand tools. \nMaterials fee: $5 \nA select number of high-quality carving axes will be available for purchase.
